Tonight’s full moon is eclipsed. When the light of heavenly bodies is blocked from reaching Earth, it is actually considered inauspicious by Vedic tradition. When I lived in India during an eclipse, we spent the entire day and night inside the temple praying, chanting, singing to protect and balance the negative energy from an eclipse. Reading Bhagavad Gita As It Is 6:9-10 “A transcendentalist should always try to concentrate his mind on the Supreme Self; he should live alone in a secluded place and should always carefully control his mind.He should be free from desires and feelings of possessiveness.” Living like that would sure make living as a transcendentalist easier! Srila Prabhupad tells and has shown us that it is not necessary to live as a hermit to attain Krishna consciousness. In my own life, though, I do think it has helped to experience living simply and away from material distraction.
